Istria has always been a region that produces unique and quality wines. Its vineyards are located at the same latitude as the world's most famous wine producing regions. The potential and richness of the Istrian soil was also recognized by Petra and Ivan Leko who started a new wine project in western Istria. The fact that a leading Croatian enologist, Milan Budinski, is involved in the project speaks volumes about its seriousness.
Buje is naturally one of the best areas for raising grapes thanks to the fresh Istrian Mediterranean climate with its moderately warm and dry summers and wet and mild winters, as well as numerous water sources and mildly sunny, hilly terrain. We currently own thirty hectares of vineyards in prime locations around Buje where we grow Istrian Malvasia, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The name of the new wines, Bastiàn, comes from the name of one of the patrons of Buje. The very name of our wines reveals that we preserve what is essential and valuable, and that we work dedicatedly in the white soil of Istria to create top quality, Istrian wines.
